In May, the Cowarts Senior Citizen Center celebrated the arrival of a brand-new bus, thanks to the generosity of the Wiregrass Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council. The donation, made possible through a partnership with Representative Paul Lee and Senator Donnie Chesteen, marks a significant improvement in the services offered to local seniors.
Ronnie Davis, Executive Director of Wiregrass RC&D, expressed his gratitude toward the local legislators who played a crucial role in securing the donation. “If it weren’t for legislators, we couldn’t do this,” Davis said. “We appreciate them giving us the opportunity as RC&D to take the application, process it, help people work through it, and get the funding set up.”
Davis shared that he finds joy in seeing the direct impact of the council’s efforts. “I deal with people that I know and get to deal with folks one-on-one, hand in hand. I get to see people smile, and they appreciate what you do for them,” he added.
The new bus will be free for seniors to use, providing them with a convenient and accessible means of transportation for their daily activities. This addition promises to enhance the quality of life for the senior community in Cowarts by offering reliable transportation to local events and essential services.
The Wiregrass RC&D’s contribution highlights the ongoing efforts of community leaders to support the region’s senior citizens and ensure their well-being.
